The Narembeen Housing Group, a sub-committee of Go Narembeen, is dedicated to addressing the housing shortage in Narembeen.

With the generous support of the Shire of Narembeen, the Go Narembeen Progress Association, Judith McDougall Designs, Ross Squire Homes, CJB Carpentry and Combined Pest Control, the group has commenced their first housing project for Lot 47 Cheetham Way, Narembeen.

Limited vacants lots left.

Background of Narembeen Housing Group

Aim

The aim of the Narembeen Housing Group (NHG) is to get houses into Narembeen.

History

The NHG was formed in 2006 after a series of town meetings discussing the ‘Future of Narembeen’. These meetings identified the need to attract and retain people in the district. The meetings agreed that to begin to address these two issues the problem of lack of housing in Narembeen had to be resolved.

Focus

The NHG sees itself as initially ‘Narembeen focussed’, but in the future is quite happy to be involved in a regional push for housing. We appreciate that the ‘housing problem’ is a regional one, but think we need to start local.

Make up of the Group

We are a ‘not for profit’ committee.  This being said our projects will be commercial ventures, with all profits going into the next project.

Partnerships & Membership

The NHG and the local progress association, Go Narembeen, have parallel beliefs – keeping Narembeen strong. With these similar ideals in mind we approached Go Narembeen requesting that they act as our umbrella group.

The NHG members are representative of a broad demographic. The members bring with them a wide range of ages, interests, qualifications and experiences. They are all involved in and have been involved in many varied aspects of life in Narembeen; from sporting clubs, education, service organisations, farming groups, small businesses, local government and special interest groups. They are committed to the social and economic development of the district.

The members are: Christine Arnold, Russell Arnold, Ebony Cowan, Gina DeLuis (Shire councillor), Sheldon Miller and Ray Parsons.

The NHG have had important assistance and support from other members of the community. At several meetings we have benefited from the research and ideas of another councillor, Keith Miller. The President of Go Narembeen, Brian Cusack, has also assisted us with his advice and support.

We keep in close contact with the Shire, both through our Shire representative and also through continual liaison with the CEO, Ryan Duff. Ryan has been a sounding board for us and an invaluable resource. We look forward to working closely with him on all our projects.

The Shire supports the concept whole heartedly and has agreed taken a loan out for us from the Country Housing Authority. They have also provided a block in Cheetham Way, Narembeen, for us to build our first house on. They are doing the site works there also.

We are members of the Housing Industry Association, which will provide us with information and support.
