$100,000 Donated to Charities and Services
Dorcas Clothing is a second-hand clothing, furniture and homewares charity run by local volunteer Rosemary Smoker located in Narembeen and Narrogin.
Funds raised from the sale of second-hand goods are injected back into the communities of Narembeen and Narrogin through $1,000 donations to charities and services. And it is not only these towns that prosper; donations have been made to assist disaster relief efforts in Australia and around the world.
Rosemary Smoker, the instigator and driver of this project set her sights high this week to reach the magic $100,000 in donations to charities and services. A Facebook post on 16th May confirmed with much gratitude that this milestone had been reached!
Around 3 years ago when the collection of used clothing was discontinued locally, Rosemary had an idea to establish a collection point for clothing at the Church of Christ. This small donation area soon rapidly grew and alternative accommodation was required, this took the form of a garage and now the much bigger District Club. In June 2015, it was decided to spread the charity to the Narrogin community, which has been very well received.
Rosemary said “goods are sold very cheaply, so there is a quick turnover and customers are coming from all around the Wheatbelt to purchase goods.”
Through Rosemary’s efforts as well as her band of merry helpers there have been many spin offs for the Narembeen and Narrogin communities through low cost clothing & goods, social interaction and volunteerism.
Of course this venture would not have been possible without the generous donations and purchases from the people of Narembeen, Narrogin and all over the Wheatbelt who have supported Dorcas Clothing to reach this awesome target!
Well done Rosemary on this fantastic achievement, you have humbly dedicated yourself to this exciting venture and your precious cash donations have assisted many, thank you!
