Motor Vehicle Licensing

Licensing can be done in between the hours of 8.30am to 4.30pm. At the Narembeen Shire Council the following are some examples of what we do:

  • Vehicle Registrations
  • Drivers Licence
  • Permits
  • Vehicle Transfers
And many more.

Vehicle Registration Renewals can be paid at the Narembeen Shire in person or by mail.

Shire of Narembeen
1 Longhurst Street
Narembeen WA 6369

To register your vehicle you will need to get a vehicle examination so you can register it.

Vehicle examinations can be conducted either at the Shire Depot or Aquip Machinery. To make an appointment for an inspection you will need to talk to the Shire Depot Mechanic or Aquip Machinery mechanic for a time and day. Once you have made the appointment you will need to attend in person to pay for an inspection the day before. Also pay for a permit if the vehicle is unregistered and needs to be moved from one place to the place where you are getting the vehicle examined.

With Special Series Plates you have a wide range of numbers to choose from. Here is a sample below of the Narembeen Special Series Plate

To order these plates or any other custom series plate, you must fill out an application form. The special series or other plates will take 6 - 8 weeks to arrive at the Shire.

There are 3 stages if you wish to apply for your drivers licence and you are 16 years of age. The 3 stages are below:

At the age of 16 years you need to study the DriveSafe Handbook so you can be prepared for the Computerised Theory Test. The Computerised Theory Test (also known as CTT) can be conducted at the Narembeen Shire. To make an appointment please contact Rebecca Gmeiner or Claire Stirrat on 9064 7308.

At the age of 16 and 6 months you are required to undergo a practical driving assessment. To make an appointment with the Driving Assessor you can contact the Shire office on 9064 7308.  The Assessor is here once a month on the second Tuesday. If you pass the driving assessment you then come in to the Shire and you will then be issued your Phase II Learners Permit along with a Log Book where you need to complete 25 hours supervised. The 2009 remaining dates for driving assessments are:
    13 October
    10 November
    8 December

When you have turned the age of 17 and you have completed 25 hours in your Log Book you will need to make an appointment at the Shire to do your Hazard Perception Test (also known as HPT).
If you have successfully passed the HPT you will then be issued your Provisional Driver's Licence.

If you have any more queries on Licensing please do not hesitate to contact Claire Stirrat or Rebecca Gmeiner on 9064 7308.
