The installation of CCTV security cameras at key locations around the Narembeen town site is now complete.
Work began in December 2018 to install 9 state-of-the-art digital cameras at a variety of sites that have been identified as key locations for combating crime and antisocial behaviour.
The locations of the cameras were decided in consultation with the Narembeen Police.
The Shire of Narembeen secured $90,000 in grant funding from the Australian Government through the Safer Communities Funding Programme to undertake the project, with further camera locations to be considered in the near future.
Vision from the cameras will be monitored by the Narembeen Police. The Shire of Narembeen in consultation with the Narembeen Police and WALGA will be putting in place a Policy on use of the vision with a focus on privacy.
Through the Shire of Narembeen’s Strategic Planning process in 2017-2018, community consultation placed a high priority on the need for safety in the community and in late 2018 a Community Safety & Crime Prevention Plan was developed in close partnership with the Narembeen Police.
Shire of Narembeen President, Cr Rhonda Cole said a key priority for Council is protecting the safety and wellbeing of the community.
The Shire of Narembeen would like to acknowledge the funding received through the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science's Safer Communities Round 2 Programme.
