John Curtin Weekend 2019

The Curtin Volunteers are a student-driven volunteering hub who volunteer their time right across Western Australia.  Their mission is to provide volunteering and leadership opportunities which both enhance student experiences and benefit the wider community.

This year, the students undertook volunteer work in the community that included gardening at Senior Citizens Centre, Aged Homes, Swimming Pool and Wadderin. The visit gave the students the opportunity experience some fresh country air and Narembeen hospitality.

A big thank you to the team at the Narembeen CRC—Vanessa, Kristie and Julie and anyone else who helped make the weekend a success.  Thanks also to the Shire staff—Scott and Katherine who assisted on the day.  Also thank you to the Wadderin Committee who provided direction to students when cleaning out drains at Wadderin on Sunday.

This is an important weekend for these students, it gives them an opportunity to head out of Perth and visit a country location.  Many of the students are from overseas and would not have visited country towns such as Narembeen.  With over 500 volunteers travelling to more than 40 participating regional towns and metropolitan sites to work on a range of initiatives, the experience offered by John Curtin Weekend is certainly unique.
