The Shire of Narembeen recognises the historical significance of the Narembeen Cemetery and is committed to ensuring the cemetery is preserved and enhanced in keeping with the natural features and landscape.
In 2016 the Shire of Narembeen’s Cemetery Committee identified a need for better planning and management of the Narembeen Cemetery and conducted several site inspections in order to ascertain any required improvements.
In February 2018 the Shire of Narembeen advertised for expressions of interest for consultants to provide a Scoping Study for the project. With three consultants providing quotations, it was decided to appoint Plus Architecture as the preferred consultant for the project.
Plus Architecture will provide a masterplan, concept design and vision for the project. Which will also include phasing of the project in order of priority and to align with Shire budgets.
The Shire of Narembeen recognises the need to consult with the community and affected families when carrying out any works that may impact directly on for example the niche wall. In the coming weeks, the Shire of Narembeen will provide the community with recommendations for the Cemetery Re-development Plan and welcomes feedback.
