President of the Shire of Narembeen Cr Rhonda Cole formally welcomed the student councillors and their teacher Mr Gmeiner to a question and answer session prior to last week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council.

The students had prepared some fantastic questions and they are to be commended on their interaction with Shire Councillors and staff.  “Cr Bevan Thomas said “”congratulations on being elected as student councilors, you’re presentation has been great today, very professional and we really like your new shirts”.

The students have met annually with the Shire Council for the past 6 years and it is a great chance for students and councilors to interact and understand the roles each play within their organisations.

Cr Rhonda Cole was asked by one student what was the biggest challenge of Council, Cr Rhonda Cole said “not being able to support everything that is happening within the community is a big challenge, however ensuring that our roads are safe is probably the biggest challenge, as a Council one of our biggest priorities is keeping our community safe”.

Community & Economic Development Officer, Sheree Thomas said “it is wonderful for the students to interact with the Shire Councillors and staff, it provides an opportunity for the leaders of the school to advise Council on what is important to the youth of our community.

We hope that the students enjoyed their visit and gained a better understanding of the role of local government in Narembeen.
