Advocating for Better Rural Healthcare

Shire President Cr Holly Cuscak and CEO Rebecca McCall recently travelled to Canberra to represent the Shire of Narembeen at the Local Government Rural Health Funding Alliance workshop, joining councils from across Australia to advocate for fairer funding for rural healthcare.

The workshop highlighted the growing financial burden placed on rural local governments to attract and retain GPs—an essential service that should be sustainably funded by the Commonwealth, not local ratepayers. Representatives from more than 30 councils, alongside key local government and health organisations, united to call for long-term solutions that support rural and remote communities.

As a founding member of the Local Government Rural Health Funding Alliance, the Shire of Narembeen remains committed to advocating for equitable access to healthcare and ensuring our community has the essential medical services it deserves.
